Accessing a roof area safely requires having a height safety system in place which conforms to Australian standards and provides safe access to skilled height safety operators to get to where they need to go to undertake work.

Anchor point installation provides safety for contractors, personnel and any other person needing to undertake work at height. Anchor point safety systems are critical in ensuring that workers are connected to a certified fall arrest device when doing tasks which carry a risk of a fall.

Anchor points are a good place to start, but you may also require roof access walkways, handrail and other types of access installations to comply with standards and create a safe working environment. Air conditioning units, solar panels and other roof penetrations can be serviced safely when a good working anchor point safety system is in place.

Once your system is installed, you can rest assured that those working at height on your premises or facility have access to workcover compliant safety systems which can prevent them falling.

We care about assisting our clients to ensure that they have the systems in place to keep workers safe. Give us a call to discuss your options with regards to anchor point installation.

Anchor points, no matter what type, need to be inspected on an annual basis in order to remain certified under Australian standards requirements.

Personnel should not use anchor points where there is no evidence of testing, inspection & certification taking place within the previous 12 month period. Anchors should be tagged and all relevant information should be clearly visible to the operator. There should be a certification document or statement of compliance, dated within the previous 12 month period and located at the entry point to the roof area. An induction and operator manual should be available to use in the planning of undertaking works via an anchor point system.

Personnel, whether employees or contractors, should seek this information and any other relevant information relating to the use of any height safety and roof access system before they conduct a JSA and go through risk assessment and safe work method statement development.

Anchor point testing saves lives and are governed by strict requirements. Make sure your anchor points are tested and certified before allowing a contractor or personnel to use them.

Personnel are also required to have completed training in safe work at heights and have achieved a practical and theoretical level of competency in the use of ancillary equipment and height safety systems.

When looking at how to ensure that your premises has adequate and cost effective access for general and specific maintenance purposes, anchor points are not only a way to comply with standards & practices as mandated by legislation, but also a means to set up facade and roof access so that future works can be done by abseiling professionals.

This will cut costs in a significant way in the long run, as for most jobs, you’ll never need scaffolding or elevated work platforms again. Rope access operators can carry out works with limited interruption and cost.

Investing in an access system for your roof area or other area at height is a critical element of maximising the potential of your maintenance budget by eliminating expensive access requirements and enabling rope access and working safely at heights.

This is quite often asked by commercial and residential clients alike. The reason you need anchor points for your roof if somebody will be accessing it for whatever reason is simple. Anchors are designed to save people’s lives in the event of them having an unforeseen accident or fall while working at height.

They are a critical investment in the safety of those performing tasks whilst in areas where there is a risk of a fall. Roof anchors are relatively inexpensive when you look at other forms of roof access systems and besides, would you want to be connected to a certified height safety system if you were working at height? I know I would.
